While helping my daughter look up something from the 70s, I decided to see if there were any videos available on YouTube. My five minute search turned into an awesome night of nostalgic memories for me, and a peek into a world long before her time for her! We spent hours together watching all the old TV commercials from my childhood! Everything from McDonald’s “Two All Beef Patties, Special Sauce, Lettuce, Cheese, Pickles, Onions on a Sesame Bun”, to “I drink Dr. Pepper and I’m Proud, I’m part of an original crowd…”, and “My Bologna has a first name, it’s Oscar…” Seriously, what’s cooler than hearing your 9-year old singing the jingles of our childhood just like we did back when there were only 3 channels to choose from? Back when when all you needed was a catchy jingle and everyone happily sang along as they hurried out to buy your product. It must have worked. We all had Easy Bake Ovens, Rock-em Sock-em Robots, Lite Brite’s and Slinky’s. And why did Wendy’s stop asking “Where’s the Beef?” We can’t get enough. She’s been singing the jingles from my childhood all week long, to friends, teachers, anyone who will listen, like they just came out yesterday.
I’m planning another YouTube trip back in time with the whole family soon. “Gather around the computer kids, I wanna show you what life was like back when I was a kid before all this technology.” So how ironic is it, really then, that current technology is the only way we can get there?
It’s so easy to get caught up in recording actual jobs, or keeping up with auditions that the physical things like paperwork can start to pile up around you. My new mantra is “pick a space & make it better”. After a couple days I can definitely see the results. Everything just seems to flow better when you’re space is organized.
It’s taken 6 whole months to make it happen (yeah, so I’m a little bit picky!) Thanks Maye Create for helping me get what was in my head out onto the web!
